Editing Conversions

Review and Edit User-Created Conversions:

All user-created units and conversion data can be edited using this Review/Edit User Conversions window.  Only user-created units may be edited.  All measurement units included with Unit Converter have been checked for accuracy and are protected from alteration.  Please contact the author if you find problems with any of the included measurement units and I’ll fix them for you.

Once you’ve selected the measurement unit to review and/or edit, you’ll find two main sections in this window for reviewing and modifying data associated with that unit.  The first section, labeled “Secondary Conversion:”, contains the data describing the actual measurement unit you’ve selected, including the input and output conversion factors to convert that unit to it’s associated Primary conversion unit and the name of that Primary conversion unit.  If the measurement unit you’ve selected happens to be one of the Primary conversion units, then label over the Primary Conversion Unit box will turn green.

The second section, labeled “Primary Conversions for measurement class units”, lists the conversion factors between the Primary measurement units in that measurement class.  This section can only be edited if your selected unit is one of the Primary measurement units.

The Review/Edit User Conversions worksheet is shown below.  Click on any part of it to see an explanation of that function:

bullet

User-Defined Unit:  Here is where you select your user-created measurement unit.  This box will list only those measurement units that have been created by the user.

bullet

Measurement Class:  Once you have selected your measurement unit, the measurement class of that unit will appear in this box.  This value cannot be edited.

bullet

Primary Conversion Unit for Selected Unit:  All measurement units have a Primary measurement unit to convert to, and this box displays the primary unit associated with your selected unit.  You can change the primary unit by clicking on the box and selecting a different one.  If your selected unit IS the primary unit, then the label for this box will turn green to alert you to that fact.  In this case, you probably will want to leave all the “Secondary Conversion” data alone since this secondary conversion only converts the unit to itself.  However, having a primary unit as your selected unit allows you to change the “Primary Conversions” data.  You can only modify the “Primary Conversions” data if you have selected a Primary unit in the “User-Defined Units:” box.

bullet

Selected Unit Input Name – Singular:  This is the singular form of the name of your selected measurement unit (i.e. Foot instead of Feet).  Unit Converter uses the singular form of the name in the one-to-one conversions.

bullet

Selected Unit Input Multiplicative Conversion Factor:  This is the multiplicative conversion factor for converting your unit to the Primary measurement unit.

bullet

Selected Unit Input Additive Conversion Factor:  This is the additive conversion factor for converting your unit to the Primary measurement unit.

bullet

Selected Unit Output Multiplicative Conversion Factor:  This is the multiplicative conversion factor for converting the Primary measurement unit to your unit.

bullet

Selected Unit Output Additive Conversion Factor:  This is the additive conversion factor for converting the Primary measurement unit to your unit.

bullet

Selected Unit Definition:  This is the definition entered for the selected measurement unit.

bullet

Primary Conversion Data:  These are the conversion factors for converting between the primary units of the measurement class.  You can only edit these data if you have selected one of the primary conversion units as your selected unit, and if you created these conversion factors originally using the Primary Unit Worksheet.  None of the original conversion factors that come with Unit Converter can be edited.  To edit these data, just type new values in the table.  The field sizes can be changed by positioning the cursor between the field headers and dragging on them.

bullet

Primary Conversion Worksheet:  Clicking on this button will take you to the Primary Conversion worksheet, where you can create new measurement classes.

bullet

Secondary Conversion Worksheet Button:  Clicking on this button will take you to the Secondary Conversion worksheet, where you can add units to existing measurement classes.

bullet

Delete All User-Entered Units:  Clicking on this button will delete all user-created measurements from the database.

bullet

Delete Selected User-Entered Unit:  Clicking on this button will delete the currently selected measurement unit.  The name of the currently selected measurement unit appears on this button.

bullet

HELP Button:  This button opens a help screen with this information so you can get help without having to open the manual.

bullet

SAVE CHANGES Button:  This button saves any changes made to the database.

bullet

CANCEL Button:  This button clears out any changes that have been made to the data and returns them to their original values.

bullet

EXIT Button:  This button closes the Review/Edit User Conversions Window.  If you have made any changes to the data in this form, Unit Converter will ask you if you want to save the changes before you exit this window.
